A Folklore (Situ Bagendit) and A Fairy Tale (Cinderella)

Well, today we will learn about story.  Situ Bagendit and Cinderella.

Here is the story of Situ Bagendit.

    Once upon a time, in West Java lived a widow. Her name was Nyi Mas Inten. She was very rich but stingy. She never gave anything to the poor. So all of her neighbours hated her.

One day, there was a beggar. He asked for meal. He was very hungry because he didn’t eat anything for three days. But Nyi Mas Inten got angry. She didn’t give him anything.

The beggar prayed to God. He wanted God to punish her.

    Suddenly the earth cracked. It was a big hole full of water. Nyi Mas Inten and all of her properties drowned in it. It is called Situ Bagendit. People said that She still lives as a leech.

Artinya:

        Pada zaman dahulu, di Jawa Barat hiduplah seorang janda. Namanya Nyi Mas Inten. Dia sangat kaya tetapi pelit. Dia tidak pernah memberi apa pun kepada orang miskin. Sehingga semua tetangganya membencinya.

Suatu hari, ada seorang pengemis. Dia meminta makanan. Dia sangat kelaparan karena sudah tiga hari tidak makan. Tetapi Nyi Mas Inten menjadi marah. Dia tidak memberinya apa-apa.

        Pengemis itu berdoa kepada Tuhan. Dia ingin Tuhan menghukum Nyi Mas Inten. Tetiba bumi terbelah. Ada sebuah lubang besar berisi air. Nyi Mas Intend an seluruh harta bendanya tenggelam ke dalamnya. Danau itu disebut Situ Bagendit. Orang-orang percaya Nyi Mas Inten masih hidup sebagai seekor lintah.

     Once upon a time, there was a girl named  Cinderella. She lived with  her two sisters and her  step mother. She was a diligent girl. Unfortunately, her mother paid most attention to Cinderella’s sisters  rather than Cinderella. While  Cinderella was cooking, her sisters went to the party. When  they came home from the party, Cinderella was sweeping the floor. These kind of treatment had been usual for Cinderella.

      One day, a handsome prince came to the village. He announced that he would hold a party at his palace that night. Cinderella’s sisters were walking on that street when the prince announced it. They were happy to hear that because they intended to attract the Prince’s attention. So, they hurried home and tried the best clothes they had for the party. Cinderella who was cleaning the house heard the announcement too. She really wanted to come but she did not have any party clothes. She left sad but there was nothing she could do.

      That night, Cinderella’s mother and her two sisters went to the Prince’s palace. They were laughing and talking along the road. imagining  that the Prince would choose one of them to be his wife

     Cinderella was crying when suddenly she watched a light came into her. That light was a fairy who came to help Cinderella.  She said that she would give Cinderella clothes and glass shoes for the party. Also a nice carriage from a pumpkin and her friends mice. Cinderella was happy to hear that. But, she only had time until midnight because she would change into normal again at that time.

     After she put on her clothes, Cinderella went to the party. She became the centre of attention because of her beauty. The prince fell in love with her and asked her to dance. When Cinderella was dancing with him, her sisters  didn’t recognize her. They were jealous and grumbled. At midnight, Cinderella seemed worried and hurriedly went home. She did not realize she had left her glass shoes at the party.

     The next morning, the Prince announced he would marry the girl whose feet fitted into the glasses shoes. Her sisters tried but it didn’t fit.. When Cinderella tried the shoes, her feet fitted completely. The Prince seemed happy because he had found his dream girl. Finally, they were married and lived happily ever after.

 

Artinya:

    Pada zaman dahulu kala, ada seorang gadis bernama Cinderella. Dia tinggal dengan dua saudara dan ibu tirinya. Dia seorang gadis yang rajin. Sayangnya, ibunya hanya memerhatikan kedua kakaknya daripada Cinderella. Sementara Cinderella memasak, kakaknya pergi ke pesta. Saat kakaknya pulang dari pesta, Cinderella sedang menyapu lantai. Inilah perlakuan tidak adil yang biasa diterima Cinderella.

   Suatu hari, seorang Pangeran tampan datang ke desa itu. Dia mengumumkan bahwa dia akan mengadakan pesta di istananya malam itu. Kakak Cinderella sedang berjalan-jalan di jalan, saat mereka mendengar pengumuman itu. Mereka senang mendengarnya.Mereka berharap bisa menarik perhatian Pangeran. Maka mereka bergegas pulang ke rumah dan mencoba gaun terbaik mereka untuk ke pesta.Cinderella yang sedang membersihkan rumah mendengar pengumuman itu juga. Dia sangat ingin ke pesta, tetapi dia tidak punya gaun pesta. Dia merasa sedih tetapi tidak bisa berbuat apa-apa.

     Malam itu, Kakak dan ibu Cinderella pergi ke istana untuk berpesta. Mereka tertawa dan bercakap-cakap membayangkan bahwa Pangeran akan memilih salah satu dari mereka untuk menjadi istrinya

    Cinderella sedang menangis tatkala tiba-tiba dia melihat seberkas cahaya mendekatinya. Cahaya itu adalah ibu peri. Dia berkata bahwa dia datang untuk membantu Cinderela. Dia memberinya sepatu kaca dan gaun yang indah. Juga kereta kuda yang terbuat dari labu dan tikus-tikus sahabatnya.Ia punya waktu hingga tengah malam.

   Setelah  memakai gaunnya, Cinderella pergi ke pesta. Dia menjadi pusat perhatian karena kecantikannya. Pangeran jatuh hati padanya dan memintanya berdansa

Saat ia berdansa, kakaknya tidak mengenalinya. Mereka cemburu dan menggerutu. Tengah malam, Cinderella nampak khawatir dan cepat berlari pulang. Dia tidak menyadari jika sepatu kirinya tertinggal di pesta itu.

      Keesokan harinya, Pangeran mengumumkan bahwa ia akan menikahi gadis yang kakinya pas dengan sepatu kaca itu. Kakaknya mencobanya, tetapi tidak pas. Sepatu itu terlalu kecil untuk Drunella  dan terlalu besar untuk Barbella. Saat Cinderella mencobanya, sepatu itu pas di kakinya. Pengeran senang karena menemukan gadis impiannya. Akhirnya mereka hidup bahagia selamanya.
